No escape from poverty hence no escape from death

Migration, perhaps rustic people from East & West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Purulia and Bankura districts of West Bengal are finding it as the only way out to keep burning the oven of their home. Bankura and Purulia are the districts of undulated land and non-uniformly distributed rain falls. Lands are barren and unfertile. It’s hard to grow even single crop. Naturally people don’t have enough jobs through out the year. In search jobs they are forced to leave their place. Same is the situation at West Medinipur. However the stories is different in East Medinipur and to some extend in South 24 Parganas. Here the population presser is taking its toll. It may harsh to listen but these districts supply the maids and servants to Kolkata. Since the Kolkatan job market is drying up, youngsters from these districts are now rushing towards Delhi and Mumbai. There they get opening either in construction jobs or in Jahuri bazzar as assistant of goldsmith. Thus they are providing cheap labour to those cities and do you know what are they importing? Malnutrition and AIDS along with some other occupational diseases. Over there they are forced to work in very unhealthy environment. Though any database is not available right now but I’m sure an honest study can easily reveal the facts. Buladi is gaining popularity in urban West Bengal, but I think she is quite helpless in rural part. This is sheer wastage of human resource. Don’t think it’s a problem of WB only. Communicable disease like AIDS does not recognize any interstate boundary. Undecided
